– Ensuring that grit is available and that there are designated staff on duty to grit floors before ice or snow is expected and when ice and snow are on the ground.
– Making sure that there are no potholes in car parks, roads and pavements within the workplace that might collect water and might freeze
– Ensuring that frozen and dangerous areas are fenced off.
– Carrying out a proper Risk Assessment to identify what parts of the workplace are vulnerable to ice and snow and ensuring that the tools and equipment are available to make them safe.
– Training staff to carry out their jobs safely, not to drop ice or put a colleague at risk of slipping on ice and to report ice and snow problems when they encounter them.
– Making sure that rainwater or other sources of drips or leaks that might freeze do not come to be on the floor.
