Suffering from the after-effects of an accident can be devastating. Whether your injuries are physical, or you are suffering psychologically, it can feel like there is nothing that can be done to help relieve your suffering.

There are options available to you in the form of personal injury rehabilitation. Rehabilitation will differ depending on the accident you had and the injury that you sustained, so we can’t advise on specific cases on this blog.

However, there are some generic treatments and procedures which help rehabilitate and guide you on the road to recovery.

Physical Rehabilitation

If you have sustained an injury which is making your physical wellbeing suffer, physical rehabilitation will probably be recommended.

The aim of physical rehabilitation is getting you back up on your feet and back to your normal self in a controlled manner, as well as building your physical wellbeing.

Depending on the area that you have injured, various techniques and physiotherapy options will be offered to you to help bring back normal function in that area. For example, if you’ve been in a car crash and sustained whiplash, physiotherapy would be offered to help gain a full range of motion back into your neck and shoulders.

However, it isn’t always possible to offer physical therapy for an injury or the therapy is unsuccessful. In cases such as this, therapy is usually offered to help you understand what you can and can’t do now following your industry, and how you can go about doing normal, every-day things with your new restrictions.

Psychological Rehabilitation

Injuries and consequences don’t always leave physical scars; coming to terms with the ordeal of having an accident can be just as damaging as having visible injuries. As physical therapy won’t necessarily help overcome these, it’s important to seek out psychological rehabilitation.

Working with psychologists and counsellors, conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, nightmares, depression and flashbacks can be adequately monitored and managed. Psychological distress needs the attention of specialist staff who are equipped to spot signs of mental trauma and create a care plan to help their patients recover.

Psychological rehabilitation can take a much longer time than physical rehabilitation due to the nature of psychological issues; physical injuries can be treated with measurable progress milestones; psychological progress can sometimes be hard to prove.

All psychological rehabilitation will be led by a medical professional with a specialism in psychological and mental health.

If the accident wasn’t your fault and you are requiring rehabilitation for your industries, you may be entitled to compensation. Find out with The Claims Partnership how much you could receive today.
